Innovative welding technique of slag pots

Slag pots are a necessary equipment for steelmaking production.  In the past, all the slag pots purchased by metallurgical enterprises were manufactured by casting technology, and there are some common defects, such as long manufacturing cycle, short service life, large number of scrapped, difficult to repair and so on.  

In recent years, with the expansion of the production capacity of KUNFENG cast steel slag pots, the traditional slag pots has brought a lot of trouble to the on-site turnover, spare parts procurement and operation, and the scrapping frequency of about two months makes the equipment cost rising continuously.  Just take the commonly used 5.3 cubic meter slag pots as an example, the total cost last year was more than three times that of four years ago.

In view of this situation, in February this year, the steelmaking plant and equipment department formed a project team to explore and study a new type of metallurgical slag pots manufacturing process. In the process of research and development, without any experience for reference, the project team abandoned the traditional idea of improving the performance of casting slag pots and put forward a new idea of using thick plate welding process to manufacture slag pots. Due to the poor operating conditions of the slag pots, it is generally considered that the welding process to manufacture the slag pots are "impossible, infeasible and inapplicable". Under great risk and pressure, the project team overcame the difficulties such as tight research time, heavy workload, high technical difficulty and bad working environment, and trial-produced a new type of metallurgical slag pots with welding structure in only two months. form complete comprehensive technical standards for processing, manufacturing, inspection, testing, acceptance and so on.

The new slag pots has a good performance as soon as it makes its debut.  Since the new slag pots was put into field trial in the steelmaking plant in late April, the slag pots has been used continuously for more than 6 months under hot working conditions, with a total of more than 400 heats, and it is in good condition so far.  it greatly exceeds the average 250 heats of traditional casting slag pots and takes only two months to scrap.  In the next step, the project team will continuously improve and improve the process to make the new slag pots technology more mature and reflect reasonable economic benefits.  It is estimated that with batch manufacturing capacity, the manufacturing cycle of this type of slag pots will be nearly half shorter than that of casting slag pots, and it is extremely repairable, and the application prospect is very broad.
